Faith That Moves Mountains

"Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." (Matthew 17:20)

Let me tell you something that changed my whole perspective on faith.

For years, I thought faith meant having zero doubts. I believed that if I had any questions or fears, my faith wasn't real. So I pretended. I put on a good face at church, said all the right things, but inside I was struggling. I looked at the mountains in my life (and trust me, there were plenty) and wondered why they weren't moving.

Then one day, it hit me. Faith isn't the absence of doubt. Faith is choosing to believe God despite the doubt.

See, we get faith all twisted up. We think it's a feeling, something that washes over us and makes everything easy. But real faith is a decision. It's looking at impossible circumstances and saying, "God, I don't see how this is going to work out, but I'm choosing to trust You anyway."

That's the kind of faith that moves mountains.

Think about Peter walking on water. He had doubts. The Bible tells us that when he saw the wind, he got scared. But here's what we miss: he still got out of the boat. He still took those steps. His faith wasn't perfect, but it was active. And that's what Jesus honored.

We spend so much time waiting to feel more faith before we act. But faith grows when we use it, not when we hoard it. It's like a muscle. If you never exercise it, it stays weak. But when you stretch it, when you push past your comfort zone and trust God with something that scares you, that's when it gets stronger.

Stop waiting for the mountain to look smaller before you speak to it.

God isn't asking you to see a way through. He's asking you to trust that He has a way through. There's a difference. When the Israelites stood at the Red Sea with the Egyptian army closing in, they couldn't see a solution. The situation looked hopeless. But God didn't need them to figure it out. He just needed them to trust Him and move forward.

The same is true for you right now. Whatever mountain you're facing (financial stress, health issues, broken relationships, career uncertainty), God isn't intimidated by it. He's not pacing heaven trying to figure out what to do about your situation. He already knows the answer. He's just waiting for you to trust Him with it.

Here's what I've learned: bold faith starts with small steps.

You don't need to have everything figured out. You don't need to muster up some superhuman level of confidence. You just need to take the next step God is showing you. Maybe it's having that difficult conversation. Maybe it's applying for that job. Maybe it's forgiving that person. Maybe it's simply getting out of bed and choosing to worship Him despite the pain.

That's faith in action.

And when you take that step, even if your knees are shaking, God meets you there. He honors the faith you do have, not the faith you think you should have. Remember, Jesus said faith like a mustard seed can move mountains. A mustard seed is tiny. But when it's planted and nurtured, it grows into something substantial.

Your mountain doesn't stand a chance against a God who spoke the universe into existence.

He's not worried about your impossibilities. He specializes in them. The same God who parted the Red Sea, brought water from a rock, fed five thousand with a kid's lunch, and raised Jesus from the dead is the God who is with you right now.

So stop staring at the mountain and start talking to it. Declare God's promises over your situation. Speak life where you see death. Proclaim victory where you feel defeated. Not because you're pretending the problem doesn't exist, but because you know the Problem-Solver personally.

Faith isn't about denying reality. It's about trusting a bigger reality.

Yes, the mountain is real. But God is more real. Yes, the obstacle is massive. But God is bigger. Yes, you feel weak. But His strength is made perfect in your weakness.

Today, make a choice. Choose to believe that God is who He says He is and that He will do what He says He will do. Your feelings might not line up right away. That's okay. Keep choosing faith anyway. Keep speaking to that mountain. Keep trusting even when you can't see.

Because faith that moves mountains doesn't require perfect confidence. It just requires a perfect God and a willing heart.

And you have both.

DECLARE THIS: "I choose to trust God with my impossible situation. My faith may be small, but my God is great. This mountain will move because nothing is impossible with Him."

ACTION STEP: Write down one mountain you're facing. Now write down one small step of faith you can take today regarding that situation. Don't wait for fear to disappear. Take the step anyway.
